1. Who we are

WhiteRoseCode is the trading name of Shane M Lee, an independent sole trader registered in the United Kingdom. WhiteRoseCode is the developer, licensor, and operator of SceneWeaver and the sceneweaver.uk website.

2. Definitions

• "We", "us", "our" — WhiteRoseCode (Shane M Lee, UK sole trader).
• "You", "your" — the person who downloads, installs, purchases, or uses SceneWeaver.
• "SceneWeaver" or "the Software" — the SceneWeaver desktop application in all current and future versions, including all updates we make available.
• "Merchant of Record" — Paddle.com Market Ltd ("Paddle"), the third party that takes payment on our behalf, issues invoices, and handles all VAT and sales tax obligations globally. Your payment is contractually with Paddle; your software licence is contractually with us.
• "Licence" — the permission these terms grant you to use SceneWeaver, in the tier you have purchased (Free, Student, or Pro).

3. Your licence

Subject to these terms and to your payment for any paid tier, we grant you a worldwide, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use SceneWeaver for the tier you have acquired. The duration of the licence depends on the tier.

• The Free tier may be used by anyone, on any number of personal devices, at no cost. The Free tier permits up to three simultaneous manuscripts.
• The Pro tier is a perpetual licence. It unlocks unlimited simultaneous manuscripts and includes commercial-use rights. Once purchased, the Pro tier is yours indefinitely.
• The Student tier is a one-off purchase that unlocks unlimited simultaneous manuscripts during periods of verified student status. Your student status is verified at the time of activation; you are required to re-verify your status every twelve months to retain the Student tier. When your student status ends (for example, after graduation), the Student tier continues for a further twelve-month grace period. During this grace period you may upgrade to a Pro licence at a discounted price (currently £49 inclusive of UK VAT). At the end of the grace period, if you have not upgraded, your licence will return to the Free tier feature set automatically. Existing manuscripts always remain readable and editable; only the Free tier's cap on creating new manuscripts re-applies.
• Version 1 of SceneWeaver remains free indefinitely. v1 users are not required to upgrade.

4. Restrictions

You agree not to:

• Resell, sublicense, rent, lease, or otherwise transfer your licence to anyone else.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software, except to the limited extent that applicable law expressly permits.
• Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or licence notice in the Software.
• Use the Software to create, distribute, or facilitate the distribution of malware or other illegal content.
• Misrepresent the licence tier you hold (for example, claiming a Student tier without being a student).

5. Updates and ongoing service

We may release updates, patches, and new features for SceneWeaver at our discretion. Where you have purchased a Pro or Student licence, all updates within the same major version (for example, all v2.x releases) are included at no further charge. We reserve the right to charge for a future major version (for example, a hypothetical v3).

SceneWeaver checks in with our verification service in the background every few months to confirm that paid licences remain valid. This check transmits only your licence ID and an anonymous install identifier — never the content of your manuscripts. If verification has not succeeded for over 18 months, the application reverts to the Free tier feature set; your manuscripts always remain readable and editable. A single successful check restores your tier.

6. Your data

SceneWeaver is local-first. The application never transmits the content of your manuscripts — prose, characters, locations, items, organisations, annotations, citations, exports — to us or to any third party. Two opt-in feedback channels exist (bug reports and anonymous usage telemetry); both are off by default and neither includes the content of your work.

7. Payment, invoicing, and refunds

All payments are processed by our merchant of record, Paddle.com Market Ltd. Paddle issues the invoice, handles all VAT and sales tax obligations in your jurisdiction, and is the party named on your card or bank statement.

Prices displayed in pounds sterling on /pricing include UK VAT. Customers in other countries see the local-currency equivalent at checkout, with the applicable local tax applied automatically by Paddle.

You may request a refund within 14 days of purchase, for any reason, by contacting us at info@whiterosecode.co.uk or by following the process on our refund policy page. Refunds are processed by Paddle, who returns the funds to the original payment method.

8. Termination

You may stop using SceneWeaver and uninstall the Software at any time. Doing so does not entitle you to a refund outside the 14-day window.

We may suspend or terminate your licence if you materially breach these terms (for example, by reselling your licence key or by attempting to bypass tier verification). Where the breach can reasonably be fixed — for example, inadvertent overuse of a tier limit — we will give you notice and a reasonable opportunity to put things right before terminating. Where it cannot — such as resale of a licence key — termination may be immediate.

9. Disclaimer of warranty

SceneWeaver is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including without limitation warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Software will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every device, operating system, or other software.

SceneWeaver includes restore-point and snapshot functionality intended to help protect your work, but you remain responsible for maintaining your own backups of your manuscripts.

10. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law — including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for breach of your statutory consumer rights.

Subject to that, our total liability to you in connection with the Software or these terms, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), or otherwise, is limited to the amount you paid for your SceneWeaver licence in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the liability. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or special losses, including loss of data, loss of profit, or loss of business opportunity.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time — for example, when we add new tiers, change our payment processor, or respond to changes in law. The Effective from date below is updated on any material change, and significant changes are flagged on this page for a reasonable period before they take effect. Your continued use of the Software after a change indicates your acceptance of the updated terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any dispute arising out of or in connection with them is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you are a consumer resident in another part of the United Kingdom, you may bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the UK in which you reside.
